ORIENTAL & AREA RUG CLEANING

Oriental rugs can last a lifetime or be passed down to generations with proper care and maintenance.  At Master Care Restoration Company, we feel your investment is best protected by following cleaning and care guidelines.

Four issues that can reduce the beauty of your Oriental rug are dirt/grit, moths/carpet beetles, moisture, and general wear.  Factors such as lifestyle, presence of pets or children, amount of traffic, and location of Orientals can affect its appearance and durability.

* Vacuuming

Regular vacuuming prevents a rug from becoming matted, and is effective in removing dirt and grit, which act like sandpaper, wearing away fibers.  Use care when vacuuming near fringes, as they can become damaged.

* Moths/Carpet Beetles

Both can do extensive damage to your rug.  They have been known to eat the      foundation as well as the pile of the rug.  It can be beneficial to regularly check the underside of your rug for damage, which may not be as evident as pile damage.

* Moisture

Some sources of moisture can be from placement of the Oriental rug (i.e. on top of a cement floor, where residual or slight moisture can be absorbed by the rug) or from water damage / flooding.  Time is essential when dealing with Orientals.  Proper drying is imperative to prevent mildew growth or further damage to the rug.

* General Wear

Foot traffic varies from rug to rug.  It is important to rotate your rug every 12 months to prevent uneven wear.  We highly recommend padding or underlayment to extend the life of your rug.  Padding prevents slippage on hard surfaces, keeping the rug from traveling on carpeted surfaces.

It is suggested that your Oriental rug be cleaned every 1-3 years.  A thorough steam cleaning will remove soils and debris that can be damaging to your rug.

If you have spills or spots between professional cleanings, immediate attention is essential.  Any large debris or solids should be removed using a spoon or spatula.  Affected areas should be diluted with water (without soaking the area).  Using a clean white towel or cloth, blot from the edge of the spill, working towards the center.  Avoid rubbing the area which can fray the yarns or drive the stain further into the pile.  Air dry or use a fan.

Let Master Care Restoration Company expertly handle the professional cleaning of your Oriental rugs.  We will save you time by picking up and redelivering your rugs.  Cleaning is done in our plant, and storage is available in our secure facility.
