CARPET CLEANING
Master Care Restoration
Company has been
cleaning carpet and upholstery since 1987. Since then, our
company has changed with the times. Carpet fibers have evolved
along with the cleaning agents used to clean them. Our high
powered truck mounted steam cleaning gives you the best (and most
highly recommended) cleaning possible. Our cleaning technicians
are IICRC* certified.
Our goal is to be the
best carpet cleaning company in the area, and we achieve that with one
thing in mind – you, our customer!!
Major carpet mills such as Shaw
Industries (which makes over 90% of the carpeting made today)
recommend your carpets be professionally steam cleaned every 12
– 18 months depending on lifestyle, traffic, and maintenance habits.
This deep cleaning will flush your carpets, removing the contaminants
and abrasives that can damage your carpets that your vacuum left
behind. The process of regular vacuuming and professional
cleaning will add years of life to your carpeting.
There are four basic methods of
carpet cleaning:
1. Shampoo Method
Probably the oldest form of carpet
cleaning. The cleaning agent is a foamy chemical that is sprayed
on the carpet usually with a tank type floor machine and agitated with
a rotary brush. The shampoo method is sometimes effective at
breaking up heavy soiling on commercial or short pile carpet.
The disadvantage is that this process works the chemical and soil deep
into the carpet and no extraction is used. Other problems
include overwetting, rapid re-soiling, yellowing, shrinkage, odor, and
potential for mold growth.
2. Dry Powder Method
A product similar to talcum powder
containing small amounts of water, detergent and solvent is sprinkled
into the carpet and agitated. The soil is absorbed into the
carrier and then removed with a vacuum cleaner. Although the
process is called “dry cleaning,” a small volume of water is actually
involved. The drying time is very rapid. Unfortunately, as
much as 90% of the soil in carpet is water soluble, and solvents have
very little effect on these soils. Therefore, the dry powder
methods also employ a pre-spray for heavily soiled areas, consisting
of detergent and again, water. No rinsing is used and re-soiling
is often a problem. This process is relatively ineffective on
deep soiling.
3. Bonnet Cleaning
Also referred to as “dry cleaning”.
This is a cleaning method where a solution of detergent and carbonated
water is sprayed on the carpet. The carpet is then agitated with
a rotary floor polisher with an absorbent pad. This technique
does have the advantage of a rapid drying time, due to the small
volume of water utilized. However, Shaw Industries,
America’s leading manufacturer of carpet, does NOT recommend this
method for several reasons: It has a very limited ability to
remove soil because it employs no real extraction. What this
system will do is spread the remaining soil evenly and uniformly
through the rest of the carpet, giving the illusion of a clean carpet.
4. Extraction Method
Often called “steam cleaning”.
Although temperatures vary with equipment, seldom does the temperature
reach the boiling point. A water solution under pressure is
injected deep into the carpet pile and then immediately extracted out
of your carpet into a holding tank along with the soil that was
removed. This method flushed residual matter, reducing the risk
of re-soiling. It is a well known fact in this industry that
major carpet manufacturers and fiber producers recommend hot water
extraction. As with any machine, if they aren’t used properly,
there is a risk of overwetting.
We can and will remove most of the
spots we encounter on your carpet. However, keep in mind that
some spots turn into “stains”. In these cases, the spots have
changed the original color of the carpet, and general cleaning in
conjunction with our spotting agents, may not completely remove the
stains. Acid toilet bowl cleaners, acne medication, alkaline
drain cleaners, bleaches, hair dyes, iodine, food / beverage dyes, pet
urine, and vomit are stains that are permanent. You do have
options for removal
or repair!! Our
repair services (i.e. spot dyeing, patching) can work to correct the
damage caused by these agents. Check our “Links” page for a
handy Spot Removal Guide from Shaw Industries. If your attempts for
repair are unsuccessful, call the professionals at Master Care

Cleaning Guidelines
1. Prior to the arrival of the
cleaning technicians
-
Make sure all breakables are
removed from area to be cleaned. If we are to move furniture,
lamps, pictures, and valuable items should be removed from the tops.
-
Make note of any spots or stains
that you would like the technician to pay special attention to.
-
Give the carpeting a thorough
vacuum to remove the loose particles and soils that might obstruct
the cleaning wand.
2. Upon our arrival/during your
professional carpet cleaning
-
Our technician(s) will perform a
pre-inspection with you, reviewing areas to be cleaned and special
problem areas or areas of concern.
-
Traffic areas are the more
heavily soiled areas that often show some degree of minor
discoloration even after cleaning. This is normal, and will
vary depending on the amount of use, type and color of carpet, and
general wear.
-
For the safety of you and your
family, please keep small children and pets off freshly treated
carpets and out of the way of the technician(s) and their equipment.
3. After your carpet cleaning:
-
It is best to stay off of damp
carpet as much as possible to avoid soil tracking and to allow the
pile to dry in the proper position. If you must walk on the
carpet, avoid wearing shoes, opting for white socks instead.
-
Under normal conditions, your
carpet will be dry in less than 24 hours. Dry time may be
increased if carpet protector was applied. Increased air flow
(i.e. fans, HVAC, open windows, etc.) will further reduce drying
time.
-
Plastic squares and Styrofoam
blocks found under any furniture should be left in place for
approximately 48 hours or until the carpet is completely dry to
avoid furniture staining.
-
When carpets are completely dry,
give them a thorough vacuum.
